Weeklong Hearing for Tyler Robinson Concludes — News

July 10, 2026 — Provo, Utah, USA: A week‑long preliminary hearing concluded Friday at the Fourth District Court in Provo for Tyler Robinson, charged in the fatal shooting of commentator Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University earlier this year. The hearing drew an unusually large crowd, with supporters, media figures, and family members filling the courthouse throughout the week. Members of the public began lining up before dawn, and several slept outside the courthouse overnight to secure one of the limited public seats available in the gallery. Some attendees reported arriving around midnight after failing to get seats earlier in the week. High‑profile attendees included Donald Trump Jr., Kai Schwemmer, Kathryn Adams Limbaugh, Jack Posobiec, Brandon Tatum, and Benny Johnson. Erika Kirk, widow of Charlie Kirk, attended daily, sitting with Charlie Kirk’s parents, Robert and Kathryn Kirk. Tyler Robinson’s parents, Matt and Amber Robinson, were also present throughout the hearing, seated behind the defense. Judge Tony F. Graf presided over the proceedings, overseeing testimony, evidence submissions, and procedural motions. Prosecutors presented surveillance footage from the UVU event, forensic analysis of the recovered firearm, and testimony from responding officers and investigators. Detectives outlined the timeline of the shooting and described interviews conducted in the days following the incident. Defense attorneys argued that additional context surrounding Robinson’s actions should be considered, referencing statements from acquaintances and a recorded interview with Robinson’s former roommate. Court staff, clerks, and additional law enforcement personnel were present as witnesses were questioned and evidence was reviewed. After five days of testimony, Judge Graf ordered both sides to submit written briefs ahead of the next phase of the case.
